Solar eclipse : Beautiful cosmic event or Inauspicious event???

On june 21st,  1st solar eclipse of 2020 is taking place from 9 :25 am to 2 :45 pm.

This eclipse will be an annular solar eclipse — a type of eclipse that occurs when the apparent diameter of the Moon is smaller than that of the Sun. As the Moon will only block the centre of the Sun (not the whole of it), and therefore, the Sun’s visible outer edges will form a magnificent ‘ring of light’ in the sky.An eclipse is a rare phenomenon seen from Earth.

An annular Solar eclipse is a special type of eclipse. For any eclipse to happen, the Sun-Moon-Earth should be in one plane. On each New Moon night, the Moon is near the Sun, but eclipse does not occur, as the Moon’s orbit around the Earth is tilted by 5 degrees. Therefore, although the direction of the Sun and the Moon is the same, the Moon’s position is above or below with respect to the Sun’s. Hence, on each New Moon (Amavasya), there is no eclipse. Twice in each month, the Moon crosses the Earth-Sun plane, and all three objects effectively get aligned in the same plane. If New Moon is present at that time, then Solar Eclipse occurs.

This  is the scientific approach of solar eclipse.

According to  Ancient stories  in different countries the ancient man across most civilisations it was a call of doom and gloom. Every civilisation from India to Mesopotamia to China to Egypt viewed this temporary disruption of natural rhythm as an ominous sign…some sinister events to unfold in future.

Lets check out few of it

1. Sun-eating demons make the sky go dark.
The ancient Chinese apparently believed an evil dragon living among the stars devoured the sun. So,  they would create a big, noisy commotion during an eclipse to scare the dragon demon away.

Similar stories are prevalent in ancient Vietnamese legends, where the demon is either a giant frog or toad .

And giant serpent (Mayans), giant bird (Hungarians), giant bear (Buryats in Siberia), fire dogs (Koreans).

2. Decapitated Hindu demon Rahu takes revenge on the sun and moon.

Seeking immortality, the Hindu demon Rahu, stole a magic potion disguised as a god. As described in ancient Indian mythology, both the sun and moon watch the crime unfold and warn the god Vishnu.

Eventually, as the tale goes, Vishnu decapitated Rahu so that his head would live forever, but his body would wither away and die.

To get even, a scorned Rahu chases the moon and sun and “every now and then he catches them and swallows them,"  But without a throat, the sun and the moon fall right through his throat

3. Mythical, thieving dogs are the culprits.

The Vikings believed a wolf named “Skoll” temporarily stole the sun, causing the eclipse. They would make noises to scare them away.

4. Eclipses happen when the sun and moon are fighting.

Many ancient cultures saw eclipses (solar or lunar) as fights between the sun and moon.

Beacuse of various myths and supersitions there is a long list of  do's and don't in our society. Some  of which i find are popular are:

1. Solar eclipses are dangerous to pregnant women and their unborn children as well to children. They are not allowed to go out and forced to chant mantras and think positive.

2.Many Indians also fast on the day of a solar (or lunar) eclipse in fear of being poisoned by food cooked or processed during that time.

3. People tend to chant hymns, sing bhajans and meditate during this period so that they are protected from evil effects of the eclipse.

4.People tend to stop worshipping idols of Gods as touching them during eclipse would render them impure. Moreover, the idols are supposedly cleansed by sprinkling Ganga jal to purify them after the eclipse ends.

5.Once the eclipse is over, people are instructed to take a bath and change into clean clothes to get rid of whatever was there during the eclipse. It is believed that taking a dip in the Ganga river or just sprinkling the water on oneself will wash away all the evil. The ritual is followed very religiously.

According to scientist only one thing should be avoided, seeing sun from naked eye.

So, according to me it is just a beautiful cosmic event..

Dont be afraid of it. This stories where made  when we use to think that earth is flat..
Do you really think earth is flat??
And psychologically if you think these stories or supersitions were made just to protect themselves from their fears towards this event.
Sun is the source of energy and once it was blocked people use to think they will die.. But nothing happened and nothing will happen...
Think logically and psychologically...  U will find the answers .
And if you really belive in god & then dont be afraid of it.In all the religions it is taught that god is an superpower, he controls everything. he is present everywhere. So, trust him/her, they wont let anything bad happen to you.. just do your work.. and rest leave it to him/her. He knows what he is doing.. trust your faith... And let this supersitions dont empower u....

Stay happy and conquer your fear's ๐Ÿ˜›๐Ÿ’•
